Every part of this stadium is made from marble, making it the only stadium of its kind in the world. It began as a simple racecourse for the Panathenaic Games around 330 BC. Marble rebuilding by 144 AD gave it 50,000 seats, and it later hosted both ceremonies of the first modern Olympics in 1896.
