Great Sphinx

Napoleon’s troops did not destroy the Sphinx’s missing nose: examinations show damage from rods or chisels, though who caused it is unknown. Carved from limestone bedrock, the reclining lion-bodied figure faces east and measures 73 metres from paw to tail, with a human head rising 20 metres above the base.
