Concrete vaults, apses, and bridges make up an inhabited experiment in the Arizona desert. Architect Paolo Soleri began building it in 1970 to test arcology, his plan to combine architecture and ecology. Homes, studios, and public spaces fit inside curved forms that rise from the dry land.
